Palestinian women organize sypmosium on Palestinian refugees

Originally published

The general union of Palestinian women in Cairo organized a symposium entitled, "The homeless Palestinians between right of return and schemes of settlement and its reflections on the Palestinian women." The symposium, in which the Palestinian personalities in Cairo and Arab and foreign women participated, concluded today.

The attendants refused the US and Israeli proposals concerning ending the Palestinian refugee issue through merging them in the Arab states in which they exist.

The head of the Palestinian women's union, Samira Abu Ghazala, criticized the way of the whole peace process, especially the Oslo agreement, has addressed this issue, saying that the signed agreements in the peace frame since its beginning in Madrid in 1991-- especially the Oslo and Jordanian agreements-- delayed the Palestinian refugee issue for the final status talks and denied it its political and historical characteristics and it has become a mere humanitarian issue, which resulted in the frame of the refugee committee that emerged from the multilateral negotiations.
