Water cooperation between Jordan and Libya
Jordanian Minister of Water and Irrigation Kamel Mahadin stated that the aim of his visit, together with an accompanying delegation, to Libya is to complete discussions with Libya on financing the implementation of extending al-Debesi project from southern Jordan to Amman and means of financing and running this project.
In a statement Mahadin said upon heading for Libya on Saturday he added the Jordanian delegation will meet with the Libyan work team which supervises the implementation of the "Great River" project and running the al-Debesi water project. He expressed thanks to the Libyan leadership, which showed readiness to back Jordan in carrying out this project.
Libya agreed to finance 70% of the total cost of the project, estimated at 24 million Jordanian dinars.
Hadadin indicated that this project will contribute to settling the water deficiency in Amman for 30 years and supplying it with 100 million cubic meters of water annually. He said the water discrepancy in Jordan is estimated at 220 million cubic meters annually.
