Arab League warns of Israeli aggressions against Lebanon
The Arab League has warned Israel against its persistence in attacking the Lebanese territories, a policy which may lead to unfavorable results for which only Israel is responsible.
In a statement issued in Cairo on Tuesday, the Arab League stressed that this Israeli escalation against Lebanon showed that Israel is going ahead with a policy which is designed to deliberately abort the Middle East peace process.
The Arab League asserted that the Israeli government is proving with every passing day that it is in defiance of international law.
It stressed that the Israeli attackers will not escape from courageous Lebanese resistance until Israel fully withdraws from the Lebanese lands unconditionally and in implementation of UN resolution 425.
In this regard Lebanese Premier Salim al-Hoss called on the international community and human rights organizations to halt practices carried out by Israel against Lebanese citizen Mustafa Deirani, who was kidnapped and jailed by Israel.
Following a telephone call with Lebanese President Emile Lahoud, al-Hoss sent messages to UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, the chairman of the International Committee of the Red Cross, and the UN committee for human rights. In these messages al-Hoss stressed that the Israeli practices against Deirani and the Lebanese detainees in the Israeli jails constitute a flagrant violation of international norms.
The Lebanese premier asked the Lebanese ambassador to the international organizations in Geneva to raise the issue of Deirani at the organizations concerned.
