Moratinos and negotiations between Syria and Israel

Originally published

The European Union's Middle East envoy, Miguel Angel Moratinos, said that Syrian-Israeli negotiations will be first resumed on the Syrian track and then on the Lebanese track.

Moratinos told the Kuwaiti daily al-Qabas on Monday that when the Syrians and the Israelis meet they will reach a final agreement.

He continued that there are still certain pending issues that need clarification, stressing that US diplomacy is discussing these points with the two sides and that the EU is working to find atmospheres of confidence.

Moratinos continued that after the contacts he has made with the sides concerned during his recent tour he can say that the "third round will be fixed," as the saying is, and the third meeting which will be held between the Syrians and the Israelis will permit reaching a final agreement.

The EU Middle East envoy stressed that it is time to move, work and maintain serious political commitment, adding that there is a serious opportunity to reach a comprehensive settlement between the Syrians and the Israelis.
