Morocco extends assistance to flood-stricken Mozambique, Botswana

Originally published

Morocco extended last week an assistance to the governments of Mozambique and Botswana to help them in the heavy human losses and material damages caused by heavy floods that hit the two African countries.

The Moroccan Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Ministry said Wednesday Morocco, in keeping with its traditional solidarity with African countries, it has decided to dispatch a donation to the governments of the two countries to help the populations.

The donation was given to the authorities by Morocco's ambassador to South Africa.

While rescue operations continue to save the stranded population in flood-hit areas, relief agencies warned that tens of thousands of Mozambicans might die before receiving aid.

The president of Mozambique, Joaquim Chissano, said one million persons became homeless, deploring the slow arrival of aid.
