Egyptian communications to save the peace process
Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak had phone calls yesterday with Syrian President Hafez al-Assad and Lebanese President Emile Lahoud as he exchanged with each of them points of view concerning peace process developments in the Middle East and the principles ruling the peace negotiations on the Lebanese and Syrian tracks.
Egyptian sources stated that President Mubarak discussed developments due to the Israeli shelling of south Lebanon and its effect on shaking the trust between Israel and the Arab states.
Meanwhile, the Egyptian president met today with Terry Lidson, the personal envoy of the United Nations secretary general to the Palestinian National Authority, who arrived in Cairo to hold consultations with Egyptian officials concerning the future of the Middle East peace process.
