Moroccan football federation approves French coach resignation
The Moroccan football federation (FRMF) on Thursday approved the resignation of the national team's French coach, Henri Michel and formed a technical commission to chose a new coach.
The federation also studied the poor performance of the Moroccan team, during the African Nations cup (CAN-2000), currently held in Nigeria and Ghana.
According to press reports, Ruud Gulitt and Rudie Krul, two former stars of Holland's national team are candidates to the position.
Following Morocco's elimination at the first round of CAN-2000, the Moroccan press and sports observers called for entrusting the national team to a Moroccan manager.
Henri Michel, who coached Morocco for almost five years, had resigned shortly after the return of the Moroccan team from Nigeria. He had explained that he was forced to leave the national team in view of the fierce media campaign against him.
Michel was accused of marginalizing home-based players and relying on an armada of "false" professionals whose carriers almost came to an end.
