Barak's mini-Cabinet summit takes secret decisions concerning moves against Lebanon
The Israeli mini-Cabinet for military and political affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Ehud Barak, concluded on Wednesday its deliberations which were dedicated to the military developments in south Lebanon in light of the recent Israeli military raids against Lebanon in bombarding its infrastructure and electricity generation stations.
Israeli Radio did not indicate the content of the decisions taken following these discussions, but remarked that these decisions were kept in secret.
This is, the second special session of this mini-Cabinet in two days after it had given light in its session held on Monday to escalating the Israeli military mechanism against Lebanon and striking its main infrastructure.
Meanwhile, in an urgent message addressed to Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak two members of the Israeli Knesset for the Meretz movement, Zahava Gal-on and Naomi Chazan, called for halting the Israeli air strikes immediately and warned against continued Israeli strikes on Lebanon.
In their message, the two Israeli Knesset members, according to Israel Radio, admitted that continuing the Israeli operations may lead to grave escalation of the situation.
Israeli Radio indicated that the meeting of the Israeli Knesset frequently witnessed heated debates concerning the situation in south Lebanon, a matter which reveals divisions in the Israeli circles towards the new Israeli military operations against Lebanon.
Meanwhile, the Israeli daily Yediot Ahronot called for starting pulling out from south Lebanon as of today and for evacuating the Israeli positions and returning the Israeli soldiers.
The Israeli daily added in an article published by the al-Ayam, al-Quds and the New Life (al-Hayat al-Jadida) papers called on Wednesday on Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak to admit that the occupation of south Lebanon was a losing battle.
Yediot Ahronot said, "Since more that 20 years, our leaders have been carrying us to the Lebanese bottleneck which is in contradiction with our real interests." The Israeli paper added, "Let's pull out from the south and swallow the insult. Let's stop agitating the fire of arrogance which has burnt our young soldiers."
