King Abdullah: Syria is determined to achieve just peace
Jordan's King Abdullah II said on Wednesday that the Syrians are determined to achieve a just and honorable peace, a matter which has been repeatedly asserted by Syrian President Hafez al-Assad. King Abdullah also expressed his optimism that the Syrian and Israeli sides will be able to reach a solution to their differences.
This was expressed in a meeting the Jordanian king held on Wednesday with a delegation of the American Israeli Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC). Developments and events in the region, especially the Middle East peace process were reviewed.
The Jordanian king also underlined the importance of achieving progress on the Palestinian track so a just and comprehensive peace will be attained.
King Abdullah also reviewed with British Foreign Secretary Robin Cook, currently visiting Jordan, the efforts made to give the Middle East peace process a push forward on all tracks.
In press statements following the meeting, Cook stressed his country's desire to closely follow up on the Middle East peace tracks, adding that his country is not only a partner in the peace process but also backs the efforts made by the EU to support the peace process.
The British minister also held similar talks with the Jordanian prime minister and foreign minister.
