A Sudanese, Yemeni, Djiboutian summit
An official source in Sanaa reported that Sudanese President Hassan al-Bashir arrived in Sanaa on Monday in an official visit to Yemen which will last for several days, during which he will take part in a tripartite summit between Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh and President Ismael Omar Guelleh of Djibouti.
Talks will discuss an initiative proposed by President Guelleh in order to establish peace in Somalia and to discuss the possibility of convening an Arab summit at Yemen's request, security in the Red Sea and developing relations among the three states.
President Saleh received his Sudanese counterpart upon his arrival in Sanaa coming from Bahrain, where he made a three-day official visit.
Guelleh, who also presides over the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD), which includes representatives of several states from East Africa, had earlier proposed an initiative to the Yemeni president to establish a genuine peace in Somalia. Guelleh's plan suggests the establishment of a "one united national authority," convening a "real national conference for reconciliation," and dismantling "all weapons of the militias."
