Denmark closes embassy in Morocco
Morocco-Denmark, Politics, 12/29/1999

Denmark will close its embassy in Rabat as of next February 1, an official at the embassy told MAP.

The official, who asked not to be named, said the closure decision was taken for budget reasons. There is no political motivation behind the move, he said.

The official added that Denmark's consulates in Casablanca and Tangiers will continue working.

A source at the Moroccan foreign affairs department confirmed to MAP Denmark's intention to close its embassy.

Al-Ittihad al-Ichtiraki daily, whose director is Prime Minister Abderramane Youssoufi, had reported the news, saying that the decision may harm relations between Morocco and Denmark.
