Jordanian message to the Iraqi President
Jordan-Iraq, Politics, 12/21/1999
The Jordanian news agency, Petra, said on Monday that Jordanian Foreign Minister Abdul Illah al-Khatib will head today to Baghdad, carrying a message from Jordan's King Abdullah II to Iraqi President Saddam Hussein.
The message is the first addressed by the Jordanian king to the Iraqi president since King Abdullah assumed the throne in February this year. The visit of the Jordanian minister to Iraq has come just few days after the release of a UN Security Council resolution on disarmament of Iraqi weapons.
Jordanian sources said that al-Khatib will hold talks with Iraqi officials concerning providing Jordan with Iraqi raw petroleum and its derivatives.
The sources added that al-Khatib is carrying suggestions form the Jordanian king concerning the resolution issued by the UN Security Council N 1286 and Jordan's perception concerning implementing the resolution.
