An agreement between the Sudanese government and Ummah Party

An armored car broke into the residence of former Sudanese President Jaafar Nimeiri in the Borri area of Khartoum, yesterday. A group of armed persons were in the car and fired toward Nimeiri's house. Nimeiri's personal guards confronted the attackers, which forced them to run away. None of the guards were injured, and the Sudanese security forces immediately surrounded the area and combed it to search for the attackers. Go

Egyptian Minister of Public Works and Water Resources Mahmoud Abu Zied denied yesterday the possibility of delivering Nile water to Israel through El-Salam canal, referring to the non-existence of a water surplus to be transferred abroad. He depicted reports concerning transportation of water to Israel as rumors, assuring that El-Salam canal is used for transporting the Nile water to a part of Sinai to irrigate 400,000 feddans and another 220,000 feddans in the western Suez canal. Some members of the family of Mehdi Ben Barka, a Moroccan opponent who went missing in 1965 in France, have returned to Morocco this Saturday after having spent 35 years abroad. The group includes Mehdi's wife, his daughter and three sons with their spouses and children. Go

Egypt and Macedonian signed five agreements for cooperation between the two countries, on commercial cooperation, cultural cooperation, to encourage and protect investments, avoidance of tax duplication, and security cooperation between the two sides and exchanging criminals. The Israeli government suggested starting correcting discriminatory financial policies toward the Israeli Arabs under the supervision of the Israeli Cabinet. The Casablanca court of appeal on Friday sentenced a bank note counterfeiter to 10 years in prison. Pascal Max, 46, a French national, stood trial under the charge of circulating counterfeited bank notes in Morocco. The court also sentenced an Algerian-born French woman, Khedra Benaich, 27, to 8 months in jail and a $50 fine for non-denunciation. Go
