A message from Sheikh Jaber to Yemeni President
Yemen-Kuwait, Politics, 5/26/1999

Yemeni Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister Abdul Qader Bajmal received a message from the emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Jaber al-Ahmad al-Sabah, addressed to the Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh.

The message was delivered to Bajmal by the Kuwaiti charge de affairs in Sanaa, Mansour al-Awadi. A Yemeni official source said the message from Sheikh Jaber came in reply to a message from President Saleh, which Bajmal had conveyed during his recent visit to Kuwait.

During the visit, Bajmal opened the Yemeni embassy in Kuwait, which had been closed since the Iraqi invasion.

Kuwaiti officials stressed that the emir of Kuwait stressed his country's desire to maintain "good and pure" Yemeni - Kuwaiti relations, noting that current challenges make it important to "limit reasons for partition and division."
