Diplomatic relations between Palestine and Malawi
Palestine-Malawi, Politics, 10/23/1998
The republic of Malawi and the Palestinian government have exchanged diplomatic relations, following years of hesitation by the government of Malawi, which is linked to firm relations of friendship with the Israeli government.
Malawi had in the past refused to establish any relations with the PLO. The document, which provides for establishing diplomatic relations, was signed in Malawi's capital last week by the Palestinian ambassador to Zimbabwe, Ali Halimah, in the name of the state of Palestine, and by Malawi's foreign minister.
The latter hoped that this step will support the peace process and the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination.
