Libya, Kenya to resume diplomatic relations
Libya-Kenya, Politics, 5/29/1998
A spokesman for the Kenyan Foreign Ministry on Thursday said that Nairobi and Tripoli will resume their diplomatic relations, which were severed 11 years ago.
He elaborated that the two countries -- Libya and Kenya -- are both members of the Non-Aligned Movement and the Organization of African Unity and are currently discussing "arrangements" to open embassies in the two capitals.
The Lebanese daily al-Nahar added that relations between the two countries were severed in 1987 after Kenya accused Libya of supporting a rebel movement in its universities and in providing big aids to Kenyan dissenting groups.
