Iraq threatens to reduce wheat imports from Australia
Iraq-Australia, Economics, 3/31/1998
Iraqi Minister of Commerce Muhammad Saleh on Monday said Australia's wheat exports to Iraq will be affected due to Australia's continuing military presence in the Gulf region.
In a televised interview with Australian television, Saleh was quoted as saying Iraq will not keep the same level of current trade relations with Australia as long as Australian troops are ready for confrontation with Iraq. Saleh added that the Australian government should withdraw its troops from the region immediately, or Baghdad will minimize imports of Australian wheat.
