Gaddafi hopes to meet with Pope

Libyan President Moammar Gaddafi today expressed his interest in meeting with Pope John Paul II.
The Italian daily La Stampa quoted President Gaddafi as saying, "I would have much to tell the Pope, but I do not want to disclose much of that." He noted that Libya's relations with the Vatican are excellent.
In October 1997 the Pope called for lifting sanctions imposed on Libya.
