Algeria criticizes France for consolidation day with Algeria
Algeria, Politics, 11/14/1997

The Algerian Government criticized what it considered an official assent with the demonstrations held in France within the Consolidation Day with Algeria.

Algerian sources did not rule out the possibility of escalation of criticism between the two countries in the coming few days due to the developments in Algeria.

The Algerian Foreign Ministry spokesman said that the Algerian government regrets the French stance toward the rallies of the Consolidation Day with Algeria and stated anew its rejection of all attempts of intervention in the internal affairs of Algeria.

The spokesman added that the French government was mistaken when it though it has the right to bless the rallies as this contradicts with the French confirmations not to intervene in the internal affairs of Algeria. Meanwhile, the pro-government newspapers in Algeria ignored the rallies in France completely.
