Political and security escalation; opposition questions Algerian premier
Algeria, Politics, 11/13/1997

Within the political escalation in Algeria in response to the results of the municipal and provincial election held on October 23, 60 members of parliament representing five parties signed a questionnaire which will be presented to the Algerian Premier on the incident where members of the parliament were attacked during the recent elections and also to answer their claim that the election was tampered with.

The 5 parties are the Peaceful Society Movement, the Renaissance, the Socialist Powers Front, the Gathering for Culture and Democracy, and the Labor party.

This escalation is concurrent with political escalation carried out by the 5 parties which called for general strike and organizing rallies yesterday and today.

For the second time in 72 hours, the area of Bab Wad was subjected to a number of explosions. The Market of the Dealers was saved from great danger as the news of the existence of the bomb was spread before its explosion, thus nobody was hurt.
