Sheikh Yassin, Rabbi Menachem Froman to meet

Jewish Rabbi Menachem Froman is due to visit Hamas leader Sheikh Ahmad Yassin at his home in Gaza next week. Froman, a moderate rabbi who lives in the West Bank settlement of Taqou' near Bethlehem, has long maintained contact with the sheikh and had visited him at least twice when the Hamas leader was in Israeli jails, until his release last week.
The aim of contacts with the sheikh, said Froman, is to bring closer to each other the religions, Islam and Judaism. Meanwhile, Hamas activists are preparing a press office for Sheikh Yassin where he can hold press conferences and interviews with journalists. The office will be specially equipped to suit the crippled leader of the movement who is bound to his wheelchair.
