Jordan government ignores peoplešs attitudes, say parties
Jordan, Politics, 7/31/1997
Six of Jordan's opposition parties said that successive Jordanian governments have given a blind eye to the attitudes of the Jordanian people, especially Jordanian peoplešs rejection of normalization policies with Israel. Being dominated by the IMF's will, they are escalating relations with neighboring Arab countries such as Jordanian governmentšs stand towards the Turkish aggression against Iraq. As a result, the country may have reached a stage of social instability.
In a press statement released on July 30, the six parties, including the progressive Aral Baath Party in Jordan, confirmed their principled stance by rejecting the Wadi Araba accord. This issue has enraged all Jordanian governments driving them to crackdown on Jordanian opposition, parties seeking to sow disorder among them as well as to marginalize their role.
