Iranian minister on US threats
Iran-USA, Politics, 11/6/2007

Iranians should defuse the "triangle of threats made by US" against Iran by maintaining their vigilance, Interior Minister Mostafa Pour-Mohammadi said on Sunday.

Addressing a national gathering held to mark the National Day Against Global Arrogance, the minister said, "The US designed a triangle of security-military, cultural and economic invasion against the Iranian nation." "The key to confronting US threats as well as military and security plots is to maintain national solidarity and Islamic unity," stressed the minister.

He said that US threats against the Iranian nation dated back to the very early days of the victory of the 1979 Islamic Revolution in Iran.

November 4 is of great significance in Iranian history because of three decisive events: the take-over of the former US embassy in Tehran by Muslim students following the Imam's line (1979), the exile of the late Founder of the Islamic Republic Imam Khomeini by the ex-shah (1964) and the declaration of the day as Students Day (in remembrance of several students martyred in 1978 while taking part in a protest rally against the former shah).

On that day, people from all walks of life converge at the site of the former US embassy, described in Iranian history as the "Den of Spies," in downtown Tehran.

Ralliers, including groups of school and university students, shouted slogans against Israel and the United States as they marched through Tehran's streets.
