Tunisian president backs Iranian nuclear rights

Tunisia's President Zine al-Abidine Ben Ali on Saturday backed Iranian right to produce nuclear energy in line with Non-Proliferation Treaty.

"Iran is not after production of bomb and has conducted all nuclear activities within the framework of NPT for peaceful purposes," Ali added.

He made the remarks in a meeting with the Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki in Tunis, saying Iranian nation is great, and the Muslim world is proud of Iran.

Ben Ali also invited Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadi-Nejad to visit Tunisia, adding, "We call on Iranian companies and experts to help our country in implementing the five-year development plan." On regional issues, he said that the stance of Iran and Tunisia is the same on Afghanistan, Lebanon, Palestine and Iraq, based on the idea that Palestinian parties should resolve their dispute through dialogue.

Mottaki, for his part, conveyed Ahmadinejad's greetings to his Tunisian counterpart, saying the high-ranking officials of the two countries are keen on expanding economic cooperation in light of potentials of the two countries.

The Iranian foreign minister presented a report on situation of in Iraq, Afghanistan, Lebanon and Palestine.
