Iran's Chairman of Expediency Council (EC) Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani in a meeting with visiting Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister Barham Salih yesterday said complicated situations in Iraq, Afghanistan, Lebanon and Palestine are interconnected.

Rafsanjani said improving security and economic situation in Iraq is beneficial to all countries in the region. He said, "Establishment of security and progress in Iraq is Iran's wish."

Iraq's deputy PM said, "Iran-Iraq interests have strong ties, adding Iran's help and support for the Iraqi people in hard times will never be forgotten."

Passing current situation requires cooperation of regional countries and existing forces in Iraq, Barham Salih said, adding, "Iraq can be a scene of unity, integrity and solving problems." The Iraqi senior official said, "Cooperation and expansion of ties with Iran is the will of Iraqis and the Iraqi government and nation will never allow anybody to use their land to harm Iran's interest."

Barham Salih, in the meeting, invited Ayatollah Rafsanjani to visit Iraq and the Holy cities of that country.

Iran's Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said yesterday that Iran and Iraq have reached "new and important agreement on different areas."
Mottaki has reached agreement with the Deputy Foreign Minister of Iraq that the two countries resume activities of joint office on shipping regulations in Shatt Al-Arab regarding Treaty 1975.

Responding to a question on the results of his negotiations with the Iraqi delegation, Mottaki said, "We have reached new and important agreement with the delegation." "The two sides have agreed to increase the number of Iranian pilgrims, restore airlines between Tehran and Baghdad, and reopen joint office for coordination dubbed CBC to cooperate on laws of shipping in Shatt Al-Arab."

Pointing to other agreements reached in the meeting, he added, "We have decided to bolster exchanges and scientific cooperation" as well as to complete projects on electricity, water, transportation and construction of hospitals.
