Al-Barghouthi: Israel perpetrates war crimes in Gaza Strip
Palestine-Israel, Politics, 5/21/2007

Palestinian Minister of Information, Mustafa al-Barghouthi said today that what Israel is perpetrating in the Gaza Strip is as war crimes that can not be tolerated.

In a press release, al-Bargouthi said that the "F-16" warplanes bombarded al- Shajaiyeh neighborhood in east Gaza as an attempt to assassinate the PLC member Khalil al-Hayya. This shelling resulted in killing of 11 victims, including nine civilians along with 25 other wounded.

He stressed that this Israeli crime is not only an attack on the PLC member, who played an important role in stopping internal fighting and access to national unity, but at the same can be noted that Israel has given itself the right to kill, destroy and target everything that is Palestinian, whether a child or a woman or an elderly.

Al-Bargouthi concluded that the Israeli aggression must be curbed by the international community, calling on the world to raise its voice to stop the continued Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people.

Mean time, Palestinian Minister of Health Radwan Akhras warned today of the dangerous deteriorated health condition in the Palestinian Territory. Al-Akhras said over a phone call from Geneva, where he is participating in the 60th Meeting of the World Health Organization, that the health situation in the Palestinian territory is dangerous and threatened by the growing number of wounded reaching the hospitals and health centers.

"This dangerous condition doubles the burden on the capacity of hospitals and its therapeutic and medicinal potentialities," he said.

Prime Minister Ismael Haniyya called on the Arab League, International Security Council and entire international community to assume their responsibilities in curbing the escalating Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people.

In a televised speech broadcasted in Palestine TV on Monday at dawn, he called on the Palestinian people for more unity and cohesion in the face of brutal Israeli aggression and plans.

Haniyya called also on Hamas and Fatah factions to abide by what was agreed upon and unite in the face of "challenges imposed on our people and our cause."
