Anti-war rally held in Brussels
Iraq-Belgium, Politics, 3/20/2007

Thousands of people marched to the American embassy in Brussels Sunday afternoon condemning the war and occupation of Iraq.

"No to war, yes to peace," "US out of the Middle East," "No to war against Iran," shouted the marchers.

A heavy police cordon around the US embassy kept the demonstrators from approaching close to the embassy building.

"USA, Israel stop massacres," read a placard.

The rally was also timed to mark the upcoming fourth anniversary of the US invasion of Iraq invasion this week.

"Four years of war in Iraq: No war and occupation, peace in the Middle East" was the main motto of the rally organized by over 60 Belgian peace, human rights and workers' organizations.

Marchers carried Palestinian and Lebanese flags and shouted slogans like "Bush criminal, stop US aggression." Organizers estimated that about 6,000 people, including representatives of political parties, children and the elderly, took part in the demonstration.
