Swedish lawmaker: Bush's policies cause of regional insecurity
Regional-Sweden, Politics, 2/21/2007
A Swedish parliamentarian on Sunday said the US President George W Bush's Iraq and Middle East policies have made the region insecure and unstable.
"Bush's policies on Iraq and Middle East have made the region insecure and unstable; the US strike on Iraq has had detrimental effect on whole the region," said Chairman of the Swedish Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee Urbah Ahlin in a meeting with head of the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of Majlis Ala'eddin Boroujerdi here on Sunday.
Ahlin said West media's image on Iran is in contrast to current realities in the country and the region.
"The Islamic Republic of Iran can by increasing its diplomatic efforts and more contribution into settlement of regional crises turn western media's image in its own favor," announced Ahlin.
As for Iran's nuclear problem, Ahlin said Sweden believes that like other NPT members, Iran can use its legal right for peaceful use of nuclear energy.
The official said growing contacts and exchange of views between Iranian and European parliamentary and political officials can be effective in understanding joint stances and checking the spread of the anti-Iran propaganda.
