Speaker: Iran favors independence and peace in Iraq

Iran's Parliament Speaker Gholam-Ali Haddad-Adel in a meeting with his Iraqi counterpart Mahmoud al-Mashhadani here Saturday said that Iran favors an independent, unified, peaceful, stable and secure Iraq with a powerful government.
He regretted the continuous terrorist activities in the country and urged the need for a strong parliament to pave the way for promoting peace, stability and tranquility as well as the withdrawal of foreign troops, in particular the Americans.
Haddad-Adel hoped that Iraqi people and government will succeed in establishing peace, stability and security in their country.
For his part, Al-Mashhadani said that despite the current insecurity in Iraq, the situation is promising.
He referred to the annihilation of the institutions affiliated to the past Iraqi regime as the first achievement of the Iraqi people.
The Iraqi speaker said that the elections held in the country in which the people voted for their candidates based on democratic principles is the second victory of the Iraqi people.
He called on Iraq's neighboring countries, in particular Iran, to help Iraqi people in establishing tranquility and security.
He appreciated Iran's efforts and assistance to promote peace, stability, tranquility and security in Iraq.
