Envoy condemns Israel's crimes in Lebanon
Lebanon-Iran, Politics, 8/18/2006

Iranian Ambassador to Beirut Mohammad-Reza Sheybani in a meeting with Lebanese Foreign Minister Fawzi Salloukh, yesterday condemned Israel's crimes in Lebanon.

He urged the need to pursue the crimes, which were committed by Israel, through regional and international bodies.

The Iranian diplomat also reiterated the need to strengthen mutual relations and Iran's participation in the reconstruction of Lebanon.

Sheybani declared Iran's readiness to cooperate with and support Lebanon's people, government and resistance, adding that the victory of Hizbullah is an honor for this country and the Arab states.

For his part, Salloukh said that a committee consisting of representatives from Lebanon's ministries of state, justice and foreign affairs has been appointed to pursue not only the crimes committed by Israel during the 33-day war but also the use of banned weapons by Israel against the Lebanese people.

Iranian ambassador also conferred with the Lebanese member of parliament and head of the country's Free Patriotic Movement (FPM) Michel Aoun on matters of mutual concern.

At the meeting, the latest developments in the aftermath of the aggression of the Zionist regime on Lebanon as well as Iran's proposal to participate in the country's reconstruction were discussed.

Sheybani declared that Iran is ready to take part in Lebanon's reconstruction and appreciated the assistance given by Lebanese Christians to the Shiites displaced by the war in southern Lebanon.

He pointed to the humanitarian move as an obvious example of unity and solidarity among various ethnic groups.

The Iranian diplomat called for protection and continuation of such unity and solidarity among various Lebanese ethnic groups and referred to it as the key to Lebanon's victory and the factor thwarting intrigues.

For his part, Aoun appreciated Iran's aid and assistance to Lebanon during the war and referred to the support for the country's war-hit people as a national and and religious duty.

During Israel's war against Lebanon 1,200 people were killed, some 4,000 were wounded and one million were displaced.
