Asefi: US policy in Iraq doomed to failure
Iraq-Iran-USA, Politics, 8/14/2006
Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid-Reza Asefi said that the US policy in Iraq is doomed to failure.
He made the remark in response to a question about the comments of the US Ambassador to Iraq, Zolmi Khalilzad, that Iran has interfered in Iraq's unrest.
Asefi underlined that the US wrong policies in Iraq and its lack of experience account for the prevailing situation which is against the US troops, adding that they are mistaken to accuse various individuals.
Concerning the comments of the US President George W. Bush about Iran and formation of a new anti-Islam front, he said, "As usual, Bush has made hasty and blasphemous remarks, while such a wording (Fascist Islam) is not becoming for a president."
"He should benefit from the advice of better advisors and President Bush had better apologize to the world of Islam for such a remark, as affront to religions is unacceptable to anyone," he said.
Today, The Washington Post reported that "There is no evidence the Iranian government is stirring trouble in Iraq, a U.S. general said on Monday, playing down suggestions that Tehran will retaliate for U.S. backing of Israel's war on Hizbollah."
