Rafsanjani urges Islamic states' support for Palestine, Lebanon
Regional-Iran, Politics, 7/26/2006

Iran's Chairman of the Expediency Council Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani on today called on Islamic states to seriously support the Lebanese and Palestinian peoples.

In a message to Saudi Arabia King Abdullah, Rafsanjani said the Palestinian and Lebanese peoples are parts of the Islamic nation.

"The Zionist regime violated all humanitarian values and international law by disproportionate use of force and indiscriminate bombardment of Islamic territories and massacre of the defenseless Muslims," Rafsanjani said.

He added that the occupying regime used the capture of two Israeli soldiers as a pretext to implement a pre-planned crime against humanity.

Rafsanjani reiterated that explicit and serious opposition of the United States and Britain to establish a ceasefire are reasons for extremist motives behind the current genocide.

"They intend to materialize their plan of so-called new Middle East through massacre of Muslims," he said.

He warned the Islamic states in the region, saying, "If the Zionist regime faces no obstacle in suppression of the Lebanese and Palestinian peoples, it will unleash new waves of war against other countries too."

The EC chairman said the psychological war and causing discord among Islamic states about Israeli aggression on Lebanon are evil approaches of enemies of Islam, adding, "Continuation of such situation will inflict damage on credit of Islamic governments."

He expressed regret over sowing seeds of difference between the Shiite and Sunni population of Lebanon by certain elements in Lebanese political structure, saying, "If such a conspiracy is not neutralized with vigilance, it can result in inappropriate political consequences for the Islamic world and the regional states in particular."

Pointing to Saudi Arabian determinate position in the region and among Arab and Islamic states, he said, "If the US faces Saudi strong opposition to brutal attacks of the occupying regime, it will make a revision in its extremist and unconditional support for such actions."
