German expert on the Palestinian prisoners in Israel

Two renowned German Middle East experts, called on Israel to release Palestinian prisoners who are being held in Israeli jails for years without a trial.

Speaking with the daily B.Z. the head of the Hamburg-based Orient Institute, Udo Steinbach said, "Hamas has repeatedly demanded the release of prisoners who have not been put on trial."

"The Israelis will have to agree to such talks. At the same time, Hizbullah has to free the captured Jewish soldiers," Steinbach added.

Israel has faced worldwide condemnations and outrage over its indiscriminate bombing of civilian targets in Lebanon and Gaza.
