Lebanese interior ministry confirms Syrian witness announcements
Lebanon-Syria-UN, Politics, 11/30/2005

Lebanon's Ministry of Interior confirmed on Tuesday that the Syrian witness Hussam Taher Hussam had met the Lebanese Minister of Interior Hasan As-Saba at his office late last June.

Hussam had given testimony to an investigation into the assassination of Prime Minister Rafiq al-Hariri. Hussam has just recanted his testimony about the assassination.

The ministry, in a statement commenting on declarations of the Syrian witness Hussam Hussam, said that Saba met him in framework of investigation into the killing of Hariri.

It added that it was clarified during the Hussam meeting that he wanted to give significant and important information over the assassination issue, where he was sent to the UN investigation committee through forces of interior security to present his testimonies before the committee.
