Hamas official kidnapped

Unidentified gunmen kidnapped Riad al Raas, one of the leading figures of the Islamic resistance movement Hamas in Toulkarem city and the rector of the faculty of engineering in the national al-Najah university in Nablus, in an indication to the escalations of the state of tension between Hamas and the Palestinian Authority following acts of violence that took place in Gaza recently.

Al-Jazeera satellite TV said that unidentified gunmen kidnapped al-Raas from his house in Toulkarem, north of the West Bank.

The Hamas movement held the Palestinian Authority responsible for his kidnapping, while demonstrations took the streets of the city deploring the operation.

News reports in Gaza said that gunmen kidnapped one of the guards of the chairman of the Palestinian general intelligence department Tareq Abu Rajab after they had intercepted his car in al-Wahda streets in the center of Gaza. The guard was released later after the gunmen took him to unknown destination.

In another incident, a spokesman for the People's Resistance Committees said that unidentified gunmen opened fire at the leader of al-Naser Salah Eddine contingents upon leaving his car to his house in al-Shate' ( coast ) camp in Gaza. But he was not injured.
