Iraq, Military, 10/5/2005

The US army on Tuesday admitted that five of its soldiers were killed in Iraq during the 24 past hours. This was expressed in three separate statements.

One American soldier died because of his wounds he had in a fire launching in Balad north of Baghdad. Four American soldiers were killed in al-Karabelah and al-Haqlaneyah areas, west Iraq.

The admission of the American losses coincided with the announcement made by the American army on Tuesday of starting a new military operation called and said it coincides with the military operation carried out by the American forces in al-Qaem city, far west of al-Anbar.

The American forces said in a statement that the military operation was launched with participation of 2500 American soldiers supported by Iraqi forces in order to strike what are alleged to be members in al-Qaida organization.

The operation is being carried out in al-Haqlaneyah, Haditha, Brawenah regions, 200 km west of Baghdad. This new operation is the tenth operation since May 7th in al-Anbar.

In a separate statement, the US army announced on Tuesday said it had launched a new military operation with the participation of the Iraqi forces in the southern quarters of Ramadi city, west Baghdad, under the pretext of "creating a secure atmosphere to citizens " to cast their votes in the referendum on the constitution next week.
