Scores killed in explosions against policemen in Baghdad

Scores of Iraqis were killed on Thursday in a series of new explosions that shook the Iraqi capital Baghdad and targeted in particular members of the Iraqi policemen.

The attacks started with a suicide bombing by a booby trapped car that targeted a procession of police cars in al-Doura quarters, south of Baghdad, in which 16 members of the special forces ( Maghawir ) were killed together with five civilians, while other 21 injured including 13 policemen and 8 civilians.

Hours after this attack, two suicide bombers in two booby trapped cars targeted two police vehicles in al-Sahha area, center of al-Doura, and this resulted in killing seven policemen and injuring other 13.

Three civilians were killed and other 13 injured in a bomb explosion that targeted a vehicle for the ministry of industry, east of the capital.

This escalation pushed the people of Baghdad to stay in their homes and the streets of al-Doura were empty, in particular from passersby, amid news that there are other booby trapped cars prepared for blowing up.

Aslo in Baghdad, the Iraqi police announced it found 6 bodies believed to be for persons killed by bullets in al-Shula quarters and the new Baghdad area. Gunmen also killed three other men believed to be on their way to attend a Shiite religious occasion in Karbala, southern Iraq.

In Ramadi city, west of Baghdad, well informed sources said that the doctors of the city hospital appealed for blood donation after the hospital had received several Iraqi civilians said they were injured during the bombardment of the American planes of the city at dawn.

The American planes bombarded Bufraj and Soufeyah areas in Ramadi. The center of the city witnessed clashes between gunmen and the American forces whose quarters was exposed to rocket shelling west of Ramadi.

In Karkouk, two police men were killed and other four injured in a bomb explosion. The Imam of one Shiite mosque was killed and other three injured when one bomb went off left at the front door of the mosque in Musil, in northern Iraq.

One Iraqi policeman was killed when gunmen attacked a private police unit in Baqouba, north of Baghdad, and the body of one Shiite clergy kidnapped since two days was found in Ltefieh south of Baghdad.
