Americans, Iraqis killed in a new series of attacks

Armed attacks and explosions continued in Baghdad and parts of Iraq against the American forces and members of the Iraqi army and police. Seven Iraqis were killed including three policemen and other 14 were injured in a suicide attack by a booby trapped car targeting a joint convoy for the Iraqi police and the American army in al-Ghazaleyah quarter in west Baghdad.

Other series of attacks took place in north Iraq against the Iraqi security forces and resulted in killing six Iraqis including four members of the security forces.

Four Iraqis including two soldiers were killed when a bomb went off targeting a joint American- Iraqi vehicle in Mukishefeyah area, 147 km, north Baghdad.

In Beiji, 200 km north of Baghdad, two members protecting oil pipelines were killed by unidentified gunmen.

A source at the Iraqi ministry of the interior announced the killing of one police man and other seven injured including one policeman when mortar fell yesterday in al-Azameyah quarters, north of Baghdad.

In Karkouk, northeast of Baghdad, a source in the Iraqi police announced that one of its member was killed by gunmen in the eastern part of the city.

With the escalation of the pace of attacks, the volume of losses increased in the US forces. The US army announced earlier the killing of four of its soldiers and wounding other 6 in an attack on on their vehicle Tuesday evening in al-Mazra' area near Beiji.

The number of American soldiers killed increased to 1834 since the invasion of Iraq in 2003, according to estimates of the US defense department which intends to increase number of its forces in Iraq during the next coming months "to ensure the referendum on the constitution and the general elections."

Meantime, a source in the Iraqi police said that four gunmen were killed by the American soldiers in clashes on Wednesday at dawn in Balad, north of Baghdad.
