Saudi Arabia: no information about threats to American missions
Saudi Arabia-USA, Politics, 8/8/2005
Saudi Arabia said on Sunday it does not know any thing about a nearby threat in the country, just hours after the American embassy in Riyadh said it had received threats and was to close its doors during the two coming days.
The spokesman for the Saudi ministry of the interior Lt. Gen. Mansour al-Turkey said they "do not have confirmed information about any threat in the Kingdom." He added that the authorities take all security measures necessary to withstand any possibility.
The American embassy announced earlier in the day it will close the doors of the consulate in Jeddah on Monday and Tuesday because of what it called as threats against American objectives. The embassy recommended American citizens to be very cautious and take appropriate steps to enhance their security. However, it said it does not have confirmed information concerning the timing of these likely attacks or their targets, or means.
In July, the USA warned its citizens in Saudi Arabia against extremists planning for new attacks. American diplomatic missions in Saudi Arabia were closed several times in recent years because of such threats.
Gunmen linked to al-Qaida organization carried out campaign of explosions in the kingdom since 2003 that resulted in killing 91 persons including foreigners and Saudi civilians.
