Saudi sources deny resignation of Prince Bandar
Saudi Arabia-USA, Politics, 6/28/2005
Saudi Arabian officials announced on Monday that Prince Bandar Bin Sultan, the Saudi ambassador to the US, remains in his post and will return back to work by the end of August. This was in reaction to reports that talked about his resignation.
For months, Saudi diplomats expected that the Saudi envoy who worked as an ambassador for Riyadh in the USA for 20 years and played a pivotal role in the American-Saudi relations will leave his post to another post after he was transferred from spotlight (no longer on the political scene). Certain diplomats expected his return back to Saudi Arabia to occupy the post of the chairman of the general intelligence. An empty post following the resignation of prince Nawaf Bin Abdul Aziz in January this year.
NBC news said on Sunday that Prince Bandar has recently submitted his resignation to the Saudi crown prince Abdullah who actually runs the kingdom. No statement from the Saudi embassy in Washington confirmed or denied that Bandar had submitted his resignation.
The embassy said that Bandar continues his work as an ambassador in the USA. It is said that Bander is now in a vacation and is expected to return back to his office by the end of August.
