Israel celebrates foundation anniversary
Palestine-Israel, Politics, 5/13/2005

Israel on Thursday celebrated the 57th anniversary of its foundation on the Palestinian lands, who ( the Palestinians) by their turn started to celebrate the "setback" which deprived them of their homes when Israel was founded on May 14, 1948.

While the Israeli occupation army imposed total siege on the Palestinian lands in the West Bank and Gaza, hundreds of Palestinians inside the Green Line visited their villages which the Jewish gangs destroyed with the beginning of the foundation of the state of Israel.

The visits were organized by the society in defense of the rights of expelled people in Israel, which represents some one quarter million Palestinians that resorted to the villages adjoining their destroyed villages. The expelled Palestinians celebrated their "setback" anniversary, according to the Hebrew Calendar which coincide with Israel's celebrations of its foundation.

Amid the Israeli celebrations of the occasion at the official and people's levels, the Israeli prime minister Ariel Sharon said that what he called the Palestinian - Israeli violence might be resumed after the completion of the Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, expected to start implementation in August. For their part, the Jewish settlers in Gaza renewed cling to remain in the settlements of the sector. They inaugurated on Thursday a new Jewish Synagogue on the occasion of Israel's foundation, four months before the date set for their evacuation from the place.

In Kfar Daroum settlement, the Israeli Rabbi Mouti Eiloun inaugurated a new synagogue in memory of the victims "of the Palestinians attacks" in the settlements. Sharon himself had laid the foundation stone of this synagogue ten years ago when he was a rightist leader among the settlers who considered him as a hero of settlement but now Sharon angered them over his plans to withdraw from Gaza.
