Countries offers to join Iran gasline
Qatar-Iran, Economics, 5/5/2005

"Russia has offered assistance in building the multi-billion gas pipeline from Iran to India through Pakistan. Russian Ambassador to Pakistan Sergey Peskov said in an interview with 'The News' that Russians are prepared to join the consortium for the construction of the proposed gas pipeline project," the Iranian official news agency reported.

IRNA said "China had already hinted at joining the project, which was envisioned in 1990s, but no tangible progress could be made towards its realisation, mainly because of Pakistan-India tension on Kashmir."

IRNA reported that "For meeting growing industrial and domestic requirements, both countries are energy-starved and desperately need energy import and experts have described the Iran gas pipeline project as the most feasible and economical. However, Pakistan is also considering two other options i.e. Qatar gas pipeline and Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan gasline."
