American soldier killed, attacks by gunmen in Iraq

A spokesman for the American army said on Thursday that one American soldier was killed in an attack that took place on Wednesday evening to the south of Baghdad, giving no details on the conditions and implications of the attack.

A source in the Iraqi ministry of the interior announced earlier that one of the police headquarters in al-Doura, to the south of Baghdad, was attacked by mortars shelling. The source which asked to be anonymous said that one of the American soldiers who were on the roof of the building "was strongly injured."

In al-Rabeya to the west of Musil, the police commander in the city Ahmad Muhammad Khalaf said that three police men were killed and other 8 injured in an unexpected attack between the police forces in the city and their colleagues who were disguising to chase gunmen.

A payroll for the Iraqi police found, on late Wednesday evening on the highway which links Baghdad to Abu Ghraib, two beheaded bodies for members of the Iraqi national guards wearing their military uniforms.

The American forces announced on Thursday announced the death of a prisoner whose identity was not disclosed in Charles detention center near Baghdad. The American forces said he was detained four days ago and that he is in his 30s, disclosing no other details.

In Baghdad also 12 Iraqi police men were injured after gunmen opened fire at two vehicles carrying many of them.

In Ramadi, news reports said the American forces arrested 35 persons during a breaking in operation of the city. The breaking in operations concentrated in the areas of al-Mal'ab and street 1920s. The American forces detonated the gates of scores of houses and broke into them. Eight gunmen were arrested in Musil.

Concerning al-Tharthar center which was attacked by the American forces on Wednesday, gunmen confirmed they are staying in the camp and have not left it, in contrary to what had been stated in the Iraqi ministry of the interior statement, following an attack on the camp on Wednesday.
