Ten Iraqi police men killed

An Iraqi police source in Balad, 90 Km to the north of Baghdad, said that gunmen ambushed the leader of a contingent in the Iraqi army Maj. Gen, Muhammad Abul Muttalib as he was returning back home at night and opened fire on him that resulted in his immediate death.

The source added that his body was found on Thursday on one of the city's roads. Two weeks earlier one booby trapped car targeted his house and resulted in killing five citizens and injuring 27 but he then survived death.

To the east of Baghdad, unidentified gunmen opened from a car fire on the car of Sheikh Abdul Rahim al-Samera' and killed him near his mosque to the east of the capital, according to a source in the Iraqi ministry of the Interior.

Ten Iraqi police men and army members were killed in different attacks that took place on Thursday in al-Dajil, Beiji, Balad, al-Touz all to the north of Baghdad. meantime, the Iraqi forces detained in collaboration with the American army 26 Iraqis.

One official source in the ministry of the interior in Kurdistan Iraq region in Irbil which is run by the Kurdistani Democratic Party led by Masoud al-Barazani said that the Kurdish forces arrested 6 terrorists.

Concerning the holding of hostages, the Spanish foreign ministry said that one Spaniard of Iraqi origin was released on Thursday after he paid a ransom for his kidnappers who held him for several weeks.
