Hundreds participate in PPC's anti wall protest
Palestine-Israel, Politics, 3/17/2005
Approximately 500 Palestinian young men and women took to the streets of Ramallah on Monday, 13 March, 2005, to protest against the Israeli unilateral actions and the ongoing building of the illegal segregation wall in the West Bank.
The peaceful protest, which was organized by the Palestinian Peace Coalition (PPC), came following the excluding of visiting the wall and the Palestinian refugee camps from the UN Secretary General, Koffi Annan, visit schedule to the occupied Palestinian territories.
The demonstration started following a speech by Mr. Yassir Abed Rabbo, Head of the PPC and PLO Executive Committee Member, who stressed on the importance of the non violent actions in showing the Palestinian's public objection to the segregation wall, which he described as a "unilateral action aimed at drawing the borders of the future Palestinian state."
The protesters marched from the PPC offices to the presidential compound, where Mr. Annan was holding a meeting with the newly elected president, Mahmoud Abbas.
Organizers pointed out that this protest is the start of a public campaign, which the PPC plans to organize with cooperation with other Palestinian civil society organizations, to appose Israel's Ariel Sharon unilateral actions against the Palestinian people.
