Spain arrests Moroccan in connection with Madrid attacks
Morocco-Spain, Local, 3/8/2005
Spanish police arrested Tuesday Moroccan Jaouad El Bouzrouti for alleged involvement in March 11 attacks in Madrid that claimed the lives of 191 people.
According to the Spanish Interior Ministry, El Bouzrouti, 21, is suspected of being a close collaborator of Algerian Allekema Lamari, member of the commando that committed the attacks. He is one of seven suspected terrorists who blew themselves out last April 3 in Leganes, southern Madrid.
The Moroccan is also suspected of being a collaborator of Mohamed Afalah, a suspected terrorist sought by Spanish police.
El Bouzrouti had a direct link with Youssef Belhadj, recently arrested in Belgium. Spain had issued an arrest warrant against Belhadj who is considered the spokesman of Al Qaeda in Europe.
