Somali president, prime minister arrived in their country

President of Somalia Abdullah Youssef and the prime minister Muhammad Ali Jeddi returned back home for the first time since 14 years in a visit to assess conditions.

It is the first visit of its kind since their provisional administration was selected during a conference held in Nairobi in 2004.

Youssef and his prime minister took two separate planes and the two planes landed with a difference of several hours in Jawher city which is 90 Km to the north of Mogadishu. Also arrived with the two men, 47 persons of the Somali government staff members.

The Somali president and prime minister were welcomed by thousands of persons who raised their pictures and Somali flags and chanted long life for the President.

No one in Jawhar was permitted to carry weapons including the policemen. Traffic was barred in the city. One official source said that the visit aims at evaluating the situation to transfer "the Somali establishments to Somalia."

Diplomats said that it is expected that the team of the president and of the prime minister will evaluate the security situation in several regions, and visit the capital Mogadishu which is the most dangerous areas in Somalia.

When the team will return back to Kenya, the interim federal government will decide where its headquarters will be and whether there will be a need to deploy forces from the African Union in Somalia.
