On Rice's visit to Israel, PA
Palestine-USA, Politics, 2/3/2005
Before her expected visit to Israel and the Palestinian territories, the US secretary of state Condoleezza Rice expressed Washington's readiness to help in training and providing equipment for the Palestinian forces.
She admitted that the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas achieved progress in his efforts to calming down by deployment of security forces in Gaza.
Prior to her meeting on Tuesday with Sharon's advisor, Rice stressed the need of founding a Palestinian state in order to achieve peace in the Middle East.
On the other hand, the Palestinian finance minister Salam Fayyad warned that the Palestinian Authority will be obliged to greatly reduce its public spending for 2005 if it will not get guarantees from the donor states to fill the deficiency expected in the PA budget.
