The US army said that one of its soldier was killed in a bomb explosion on a roadside near Balad town to the north of Baghdad while one marine soldier was killed in al-Anbar governorate to the west of the capital.

The attacks were not limited to Baghdad, rather covered other various areas in Iraq. One Turkish truck driver was killed near Samera city after he was ambushed by unidentified gunmen. Three member of the Iraqi army were killed following a bomb explosion when their vehicle was running in the same city.

In Baqouba, to the north of Baghdad, three members of the national guards were killed and other two injured in a bomb explosion in their vehicle. One Iraqi attacker was killed and other five were injured in clashes with the national guards near al-Dalo'eya to the north of Baghdad.

Under the escalated security condition in Iraq, director of the Iraqi intelligence Lt. Gen. Muhammad Abdullah Shahwani estimated the number of fighters and their supporters in Iraq at more than 200,000.

One American military official asked to be anonymous refused to confirm or deny the al-Shahwani figures.
