New measures to boost Egyptian trade with USA via Israel

The Egyptian ministry of trade and industry said yesterday that Egypt has chosen 7 positions where industries and exports to the United States can be made according to a trade agreement it will sign with Israel and the USA on December 14.

According to the agreement goods to be produced in these areas, including Israeli components not more than 11.7% will be able to enter the American markets without customs fees and shares restrictions.

In a statement, the ministry explained that the seven areas will be in the industrial area of Ramadan 10th city and the industrial area of May 15, Subra al-Kheima, al-Badershin, Burj al-Arab, al-Amereyah and Port saeed. The first four area are situated in the Greater Cairo area while Burj al-Arab and al-Amereyah are situated on the northern west coast which overlooks the Mediterranean near Alexandria city. Port saeed is situated at the northern entrance of the Suez Canal on the Mediterranean.

The agreement of the qualified industrial area will be signed on Tuesday in Cairo with each of the American trade representative Robert Zolik, the Israeli minister of trade and commerce Ehud Olmert and the Egyptian minister of industry Rasheed Muhammad Rasheed. A statement by the ministry said that Egypt considers the agreement as a plan towards a full trade free agreement with the USA.
